For these 2 automatic center punch, simply aim at the surface you want to apply the punch for at a 90-degree angle(perpendicular) and press hard with your hand(s) to make a clear and deep dimple for your drill that provides a recess for the work.
A similar method applies to the normal center punch but this time, you have to use a hammer to leave that dimple.
