Aran Crafts Unisex Irish Fisherman Soft Knit Roll Neck Sweater (R1949-MED-CHAR) Charcoal
For Centuries Irish Fishermen in the Aran Islands have appreciated the wonderful qualities of wool. Using this wonderful raw material they created a style of knitting and knitwear that is still recognized and prized today.Intimately linked to families and their identities, the patterns used have long held symbolism and some of which represent:
- The Cable stitch representing the fisherman's ropes.
- The Diamond stitch represents the small fields of the Aran Islands.
- The Moss stitch represents the seaweed used to fertilize fields for a good harvest.
Merino Wool has a quality that other wools do not. Merino wool is prized for its luxurious hand feel. This is due to the fine diameter of the wool fibers that make up the yarn. The result is a wool that is soft and pleasant to the touch and to wear. Aran garments are deeply entrenched in Irish heritage, originally designed to protect the wearer while out at work. Now, they are a stylish piece of clothing reminiscent of days gone by. Irish knitwears from Aran Crafts are designed and created using traditional Aran stitches to bring you an authentic piece of Irish clothing, perfect for any occasion. Our selection of Irishwear includes the classic Aran crew neck sweater, Aran Fisherman sweater, Aran buttoned cardigans, Aran jackets, and Irish roll neck sweaters designed to suit every personal taste. We hope that you will enjoy and treasure the quality product that you are purchasing.
- PRODUCED IN IRELAND: The village of Monasterevin in the county of Kildare, Ireland is the home of Aran Crafts Ireland.
- WEAR THE TRADITION: The company was originally established by Molly Cullen in 1957. Molly's dream was to incorporate a family knitting business whose heritage stretched back for over 100 years. Molly, the granddaughter of Kate O'Shea, who, in 1856, was the first craftswoman in Ireland to commercially market her robust, hand knitted woolens.
- 100% MERINO WOOL: Soft, Warm & Luxurious to feel & wear. Merino wool is soft to the hand, and made up of very fine fibers as compared to other wools leading to an extremely comfortable fit and very comfortable to wear.
- TRADITIONAL IRISH STITCHING: This Traditional Irish roll neck sweater comes from Aran Crafts catalogue of Traditional Irish knitting. It follows all the Traditional Irish Aran Stitching patterns that have been passed down from generation to generation, which in olden days told stories of families and life in Ireland
- DESIGN: Along the center panel of the body the honeycomb Aran stitch flows, signifying the hard working bee or the hard work of a fisherman. On either side of this center paneling there are rows of Irish cable stitches resembling the fishermans ropes, the link to life. This jumper tells an Irish story through knitting.
